As we begin a new school year, our students will soon participate in NWEA MAP Growth Fall Testing. These assessments provide our teachers with valuable information about each student’s current academic skills and help us identify areas of strength, growth, and opportunities for additional support.
MAP Growth is designed to measure student growth over time. While students may understandably feel some excitement or nervousness about testing, the best preparation is simply to come to school ready to learn, do their best, and show what they know.
Fall Testing Schedule
Families are encouraged to make note of their child’s testing dates and help ensure that students arrive at school on time and ready to begin the day. Testing for Kindergarten – 3rd Grade begins at 8:30 a.m., followed at 9:25 a.m. for students in 4th Grade – 8th Grade.

How Families Can Help
A few simple habits can make a big difference on testing days:
- Get a good night’s sleep. Encourage your child to maintain a regular bedtime and get plenty of rest before testing.
- Eat a healthy breakfast. A nutritious breakfast can help students feel energized and ready to learn.
- Arrive on time. A calm, unhurried morning helps students begin the day with confidence.
- Bring a positive attitude. Remind your child that MAP Growth is an opportunity to show what they know—not something to fear.
- Encourage effort, not perfection. Students should take their time, read questions carefully, and do their best on every question.
- Take their time. MAP Growth is not a race. Students should work carefully and thoughtfully.
- Ask for help with directions. Students may ask their teacher to clarify directions if they are unsure what they are being asked to do.
- Take breaks when appropriate. Encourage students to use any breaks provided by their teacher to stretch, take a breath, and refocus.
A Few Reminders for Students
On testing days, remember:
Read carefully. Think about your answer. Do your best. Keep going!
MAP Growth is designed to meet students where they are academically. Some questions may be easy, while others may be challenging. That is okay! Students should not worry if they encounter questions they do not know. The purpose of MAP Growth is to help us understand what students are ready to learn next.
Most importantly, remind your child that one test does not define who they are as a student. We are interested in their growth and progress throughout the school year.
Thank you for partnering with us to help our students begin the school year with confidence, perseverance, and a commitment to doing their best!
