Friends of Blessed Sacrament,

I pray each of you experienced God’s tender love and grace this Christmas!

It is with great excitement that I inform you that the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) has formally invited our faith community to join its esteemed and innovative Brainpower Connection! have accepted this invitation as we chart our future within the Archdiocese of San Antonio.

Earlier this year, Blessed Sacrament Catholic School celebrated its 60th Anniversary of providing quality education and formation of the whole person both in love and service of God and community. As we celebrate this milestone anniversary, we look forward to building a partnership with the larger Catholic community, including UIW.

The University of the Incarnate Word, Incarnate Word High School and St. Anthony Catholic High School have a rich tradition within the Archdiocese of San Antonio. Their commitment to spiritual formation, academic excellence and community mirror what Blessed Sacrament Catholic School has been providing since 1958. The success of their university and high schools is observable by a respected reputation within our Archdiocese.

In the new year, I will be meeting with representatives of the Brainpower Connection to formalize our new partnership.  As I express my interest in the Brainpower Connection so that I may provide our community with more information.  Earlier this fall, I shared my goals of entering with members of the Brainpower Connection.  The goals are also in line with our school’s strategic plan, Charting Our Future. These three-folded goals include:

  1. Increasing collaboration and cooperation among the elementary schools within the Brainpower Connection;
  2. Strengthening our middle school by expanding collaboration with the faculties at Incarnate Word High School, St. Anthony Catholic High School and UIW; and
  3. Supporting our parents’ desire to continue their academic formation within a Catholic high school environment.

I am confident that our admission into the Brainpower Connection will further animate our school’s Catholic identity, strengthen our academic programs and enhance our faith community.

As we continue celebrating this season of Christ’s birth, I pray the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Saint Joseph continue to watch over our school and families.  Praised be the Incarnate Word!

In Christ’s peace and service,

Michael Fierro
