Friends of Blessed Sacrament,

As part of our Emergency Assistance to Non-Public Schools (EANS) Program Application, I submitted for the services of academic intervention in the areas of reading and mathematics.  I also requested dyslexia support services for our students. Earlier this week, the contract with Catapult Learning was approved by Education Resource Center 10 who is managing the EANS Grant for the Texas Education Agency (TEA).  Grant funding has been awarded through September 30, 2023.

Ms. Anissa de la Garza and Ms. Gabriela Guerreo will begin setting up at Blessed Sacrament this week with direct services to begin on Monday, October 11, 2021. Teachers will begin identifying students in Kindergarten through Eighth Grade who will benefit from academic intervention and support.  Priority will be given to non-Title I students initially since a student may qualify for Title I Services academically, but cannot receive services due to their address.  Title I Services are tied to where a student resides and the public school they would attend. Once a roster has been developed, the school will send notification to you informing you of the offered services and permission for your student to receive the services.

Additionally, Mrs. Lynn Chapman, our current Title I Teacher, has been hired to provide dyslexia support services on Fridays.  We will initially begin with students who have been formally diagnosed with dyslexia and have a current Building Strong Foundations Plan in place. The next priority will be for those students who are currently in place to for academic testing.

Finally, the Clevertouch Boards  have been released for installation.  They were tied up in Houston due to U.S. Customs and then by Tropical Storm Nicholas.   They are scheduled to be installed on Monday, October 11, 2021 weather permitting.

I thank you for your patience as our nearly $1 Million Dollars EANS Grant has been processing with Region 10 longer than expected.  Nonetheless, I am excited about how our students and school will benefit from YOUR federal tax dollars!

In service to the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament,

Michael Fierro
