Dear Blessed Sacrament Families,
In honor of National Unity Day, Catholic Schools in the Archdiocese of San Antonio will celebrate Solidarity Day on Monday, October 7, 2024. On this day, Blessed Sacrament Catholic School will unite to stand against bullying and promote acceptance, kindness, and inclusion.
To show our unity as a Bulldog Family, we encourage all faculty, staff, and students to wear an orange shirt. Students may pair their orange shirt with their uniform skirt, shorts, or pants, or wear a solid blue skirt or blue jeans.
In addition to this visual demonstration, our students will participate in four activities designed to foster acceptance, kindness, and inclusion.
Solidarity Rosary: Our Solidarity Day coincides with the Memorial of Our Lady of the Rosary. At 7:55 a.m., we will gather as a community to recite a Solidarity Rosary. Each mystery will focus on these intentions:
-
- First Mystery (Acceptance): For acceptance and understanding among all students.
- Second Mystery (Healing): For those who have been bullied, that they may find healing and strength.
- Third Mystery (Courage): For those who witness bullying, that they may find the courage to stand up and speak out.
- Fourth Mystery (Kindness): For kindness to prevail in our schools and communities, fostering an environment of love and respect.
- Fifth Mystery (Unity): For unity among all students and staff, that we may support one another with compassion and friendship.
Orange Kindness Bags: Each student will receive an orange Kindness Bag to decorate in the days leading up to Solidarity Day. They can personalize it with their name, hobbies, and favorite quotes. On Solidarity Day, students will write positive, kind, or inspirational messages for their classmates, which they can take home to share with their families.
Chalk a Path to Friendship: We invite parents, guardians, faculty, and staff to participate in “Chalk a Path to Friendship.” Using orange chalk, adults and role models will write positive messages on the sidewalks leading to the main gate. This initiative aims to highlight the importance of spreading love and positivity.
Dogwarts Sorting Ceremony: Our Fifth through Eighth Grade students will participate in the 2024/2025 Dogwarts Sorting Ceremony, which kicks off our student house program. This program aims to build community, cooperation, and communication among students.
As Saint Paul wrote to the Colossians, “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.”
Thank you for your support in making Solidarity Day a meaningful and impactful experience for our school community!
