The elementary students of Blessed Sacrament have begun creating a learning garden outside their building. The purpose of the learning garden is for students to develop some of the following skills:

  • responsibility,
  • self-confidence,
  • love of nature,
  • reasoning and discovery,
  • an understanding of cause and effect,
  • cooperation and nutrition,
  • and care for God’s creation.

During Catholic Schools Week this year, the students chose either an herb or a succulent and planted them in the garden. Since then, students are learning about how plants grow and how to care for them. They have been involved in watering the plants and are currently in the process of learning how to care for their plants during the freeze coming in the next few days.

The students have also each created a greenhouse in the building are in the process of growing lima bean plants.
